Barnes studied the masters of Impressionism being drawn into that style displayed by the Masters. Artists such as Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Caillebotte "impressed" Ken with their unique perspectives and use of color to evoke certain feelings in their works. Those wondrous works of art inspired Ken to borrow some impressionism to add in his work. Along with his history using a bold dramatic comic style, Barnes added an element of impression to craft his style as a blend of both. This fusion is exhibited in Ken’s series of Jazz Legend paintings. Ken has high regard for the legends of Jazz that paid their dues and carved out this incredible American art form. He decided to honor them through his paintings and hopefully enlighten others with some historical reference. In each of his works, Ken adds a brief description to broaden one’s knowledge or simply introduce one to the subject. Ken is eager to share his enthusiasm and peak others interests about these important icons of Jazz and paying tribute to them on canvas is a way to say thanks for their great influence and legacy.

He has been busy with several comissions which are now available in Giclee Limited Edition Prints. They include subjects from Yoko Ono to Stvie Ray Vaughan.
